His Royal Majesty , Obi, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor 11, the Obi of Owa, and Chairman, Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers has expressed grief over the death of Professor Abednego Ekoko, describing it as a monumental loss to Delta and Nigerian.
Ekoko, a Professor of history who retired at the Delta State University, Abraka and a former Commissioner died on Saturday after a brief illness, at 79.
Owa Monarch in a statement said he was greatly pained over the demise of Professor Ekoko.
He said Professor Ekoko and himself has great academic affinities , adding that he died when his service was most needed by Delta and Nigeria.
Owa Monarch said he was yet to recover from the shock of the news of the death of the Professor become he (Ekoko) paid a visit to Owa palace few days before he passed.
He said Professor Ekoko will be remembered for his huge contributions to the advancement of knowledge, especially in the field of history as his death will create a void that would be difficult to fill.
He said “Deltans should pray for the state because of the frequent death of prominent academicians in the state, which given course for concern.
” Few weeks ago, Professor Ukala died, now Professor Ekoko has died, both of them members of the Governing Council of the three new Universities recently established by Delta State government.
” Death will surely come when it will come, because it’s the will of Almighty God, but the death of these academic colossus at this point in time calls for serious prayers. We don’t loss our best materials and make progress”.
He use the opportunity to condole with His Excellency Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State, the people of Isoko and the immediate family.
He prayed to God Almighty to grant the deceased eternal rest as well as give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
