Owa Community Council Pass Vote of Confidence on Okowa
Owa Community Council , a congregation of sons and daughters’ of Owa kingdom , have passed a vote of confidence on His Excellency , Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa , the Governor of Delta State for his giant strides in the development of the community and the state in general since he assumed the mantle of leadership six years ago.
The council, at a meeting held in Owa Royal Palace at the weekend and presided by His Royal Majesty , Obi Dr. E. O Efeizomor 11 OON , the Obi of Owa , who is the spiritual and traditional leader of Owa kingdom , threw their support behind the governor for his sustained efforts at ensuring even development of all the three senatorial districts of the state.
The community voiced their unalloyed loyalty and support to the governor , praying all other communities and stakeholders in the state to give the governor the necessary support in order for him to finish strong.
The community therefore resolved to honor Governor as mark of acknowledgement and appreciation of his numerous achievements in the past six years of his administration of his administration, saying the people of Owa and Deltains in general had benefited immensely from the democratic dividends of his administration in the state.
The council , in a general meeting that witnessed no less than 120 members in attendance cautioned on the level of insecurity pervading the country , and used the occasioned to call for the strengthening of the local vigilantes through proper funding, in the community to compliment the efforts of other security agencies in the state to ensure for a safer lives and properties in the area.
The community as part of its resolutions , frowned at the practice where some individuals deliberately damage public facilities such as graffiti, defacement, building and molding blocks on newly constructed roads in the communities without government permission, saying “such acts are not only illegal but capable of undermining the efforts of the government and it can attract the wrath of the law”.
They urged the people to guide against such acts of vandalism as government may not have the needed resources to rebuild the facilities in future following the national economic recession in the country.
The community also resolved to setup measures and modalities to mobilize the people on the need for observe simple hygiene by keeping their environment clean to prevent the outbreak of live threatening diecese in the community adding that environmental sanitation has become imperative because of the influx of non-indigenes who are coming into the communities occasioned by recent developments.
The Owa Community Council (OCC) is the amalgamation of the seven communities that makes up Owa kingdom, in Ika North East local government of Delta State .
