Traditional Rulers in Delta North under the aegis of Delta North Traditional Rulers forum have showered encomium on the late Supreme Court Judge, Justice Samuel Oseji, describing him as a “bacon of hope, who stood for equity, justice, and fairness”.
The traditional rules spoke through their Chairman, His Royal Majesty, Obi Dr. E O Efeizomor II, JP, OON, the Obi of Owa, who is also the Chairman, Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The Monarch’s congregated in the palace of the His Majesty, Charles Chukukawike Anyasi 111, the Obi of Idumuje – Unor, in Aniocha North local Government area during the burial of late Justice Oseji to pay their last respect to the jurist.
The Monarch’s said late Oseji was a great ambassador of Delta State and Nigeria who has brought enormous reform to the judiciary through very sound and incontrovertible judgements in the apex court.
“We are proud of our son, who rose through the ranks to the Supreme Court and carried out his duties with due diligence without fear or favour, he was a brilliant and courageous jurist “.
“We will miss him, Nigeria will miss him, Delta will miss him, God knows why he took him, now that his service is most need by his community, the nations and the legal profession in particular”.
Obi of Owa used the opportunity to call for corporation and understanding among traditional rulers in the region and the state in particular , saying lack of unity among the traditional rules has led to lack of respect for the institution from the public.
He said, ” Now that we have gathered here, we will continue to plead that traditional rulers should unit because if we fail to unit, the consequences will be too severe for those who will come after us”.
” All traditional rulers should pray to have a successor that everyone can be proud of. If we fail to protect ourselves no body can protect us”.
” We should rejoices that we have a government that is magnanimous to the traditional institution in the state, we know it was not like this in the past, and I am almost certain that it will not continue to be like this, that is why we must be our brother’s keeper “.
” We have resolved to support the government and we have also resolved that those who have decided to undermine the institution will not be given a breathing space and some of us who have taken recourse to destabilize the institution will not be encouraged”.
