Luck ran out of the five- man- dear -devil kidnap and armed robbery gang when security operatives, acting on signals and tip off , foiled the crime and swooped on the criminals in their hideout.
Two of the kidnap kingpins were reportedly gunned down during a gun dwell with the police while others who sustained bullet wounds are cooling their hills in police custody.
The suspects have since been paraded by the state Commissioner of Police at the police headquarters in Asaba
A police source told Global Newsroom that the kidnap gang had stormed the sleepy town of Umunede , an agrarian community in Ika North East local government area of Delta State with a well orchestrated plan to kidnap the wife of the Umunede Monarch before lunching other attacks on the community.
He said investigations revealed that a hotelier in Umunede who is a member of the gang invited the kidnappers into the community to carry out the kidnap act.
He said the hotelier provided accommodation for the gang in his hotel located at the ever busy city center in Umunede , from where they planed to lunch the attacks.
He said luck ran out of the kidnappers as the police tracker sent signals to a police patrol team who was on routine patrol.
The source hinted that the police have been trying to track down the suspects for other criminals activities and acting on the signal lunched attack on the hotel and arrested the suspects who engaged the team in a gun battle.
He said the criminals confessed to their plans to kidnap the Monarch and his wife and another business man as they have being stalking the king and his wife as well as the businessman as they were waiting for appropriate opportunity to strick.
A palace source who confirmed the incident said the Umunede Monarch has since visited the police headquarters were he identify the ring leader as his subject who is a familiar face in the palace.
He said the Kings wife was not in the community on the day the kidnappers planned to strick as she was away on social engagement.
